Carol J. Kunz

Carol J. Kunz, 90, of Bethesda, MD, formerly of East Peoria, IL peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC. She was born in Peoria on August 2, 1934, to Andrew Bryan and Pansy Viola (Kurtz) Johnston. She married James D. Kunz on September 7, 1956, at the First United Methodist Church in Peoria; he preceded her in death on March 8, 2017. She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Wayne Johnston (Margaret), Richard Johnston, Raymond Johnston, Ross Johnston (Ethel), Charlie Johnston, and Perry Johnston; and two sisters; Marian (Richard) Graham and Helen (Don) Hrivnak. She is survived by one brother, Donald (Bonnie) Johnston of East Peoria, IL; one sister, Eleanor (Lee) Stoller of Madison, TN; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her two sons; James F. (Jean) Kunz of Albuquerque, NM and David E. (Maura) Kunz of University Park, MD; one granddaughter, Lindsay Kunz (Ryan Botts), and great grandson; Beau, of New York City and her grandson; Aaron and great grandson; Everett, of Aurora, CO. Carol was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who devoted her life to her family, her friends, her home, and her community. She was also a bookkeeper for Community Bank of East Peoria, and she was active in various school and local organizations and clubs. In their retirement, she and her husband, Jim enjoyed traveling to see family, which was always their priority. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her and who looked forward to seeing her warm smile that always greeted them. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Gary Deiters Funeral Home & Cremation Services in East Peoria, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Reverend Krista Price will officiate. Private burial will follow at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
