Donald Lee Icenogle

Donald Lee Icenogle, 87, of Chillicothe, passed away on August 21, 2023 at his home. He was born on February 13, 1936, in Peoria, IL, to Floyd and Elsie (Condit) Icenogle. He married MaryJo L. Newton in Hennepin, MN on November 24, 1959. She preceded him in death on July 5, 2003. Don was also preceded in death by his parents; his half-brothers, Bob Harvey and Jack Harvey; and great-granddaughter, Gabrielle. Don later married Cece Hinegardner at Glad Tidings Assembly of God in East Peoria on February 27, 2004. Don was a Patriarch of his family where his memory will be forever cherished and his legacy will be carried on by his surviving loved ones including his wife, Cece and children, Gregory D. (Donna) Icenogle of Pekin, IL, Michael G. (Becky) Icenogle, of Middleburg FL, L. Renee’ Icenogle of East Peoria IL, Randy (Vee) Icenogle of McKinney TX, and Leanne (Derek) Howald of Chillicothe IL. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Kimberly (Eddie) Burge, Jeremy (Kym) Icenogle, Greg (Lynn) Icenogle Jr, Joshua (Staci) Icenogle, Nathan Thunehorst, Isabella (Jacob) Woodworth, Quentin Icenogle, Cooper Howald, Roselind Icenogle, and Jaime Howald; his great-grandchildren Kayden, Connor, Noah, Xander, Grace, Alyssa, Brooklin, Mallorie, Grant, Jaxon, Koen, Brynlee, Summer, and Owen; great-great-grandchild Aurora; and his beloved dog, Lucy. Don attended North Central University in Minneapolis, MN, with a concentration in ministry. He volunteered in various ministries throughout his young adult life with a special focus on youth and children. Don and MaryJo were house parents at Sunshine Acres Children’s Home in Mesa AZ. Don dedicated many years to his work as an electrician at Hardin Sign Company, where he specialized in service work, retiring in 1998. Don was also a long-time member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God. Throughout the years, he served in various roles including Deacon on the Board, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Royal Ranger leader and Custodian. Outside of church, Don coached his sons’ and nephews’ little league teams and enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling, camping, traveling, and playing cards. He was an avid Cub fan. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Glad Tidings Assembly of God in East Peoria. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2023, at the church, with an additional half-hour of visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Paul Hinzman will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Trivoli. Gary Deiters Funeral Home & Cremation Services in East Peoria is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Glad Tidings Assembly of God.
