Sylvia Rettger

Sylvia Rettger, 87, of North Huntingdon, PA, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. She was born on February 20, 1935, in Washington, DC, to Walter and Mary (Taylor) Seiler. She married Charles J. Rettger in 1960; he preceded her in death in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 6 sisters, Bertha, Margaret, Rose, Norma, Neva, and Dorothy; and 3 brothers, Walter Jr., John, and George. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Renee (Thomas) Patton of Morton, Deborah (Curt) Hovatter of St. George, WV, and Denise (Stephen) Smith-Hams of Los Altos, CA; her 8 grandchildren, Lauren (David), Brett (Cayden), Taylor, Justin (fiancée Hannah), Matraca Gunnoe (Andrew), Hannah, Emme, and Charlie; and 3 great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She would dress up with them every Halloween, always supported them and loved celebrating holidays, birthdays and school achievements with them. She greatly enjoyed attending all their sporting events over the years. Sylvia worked at Westinghouse Atomic Power, Courtesy Oldsmobile, and Cavalier Coach. She volunteered at Westmoreland Literacy Society and Meals On Wheels. She loved walking, gardening, watching the birds, bowling with her friends and working out at Curves. A special thank you to Hollybrook Assisted Living in Morton, Reflections Memory Care in Morton and OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Thank you to all the OSF doctors that took care of her over the past 4 years as she battled dementia. In grief there is gratitude. We were so lucky to have her all those years as she encouraged and supported us in whatever life brought. We will keep special memories of her in our hearts. She was: Simply The Best. Cremation rites have been accorded. Gary Deiters Funeral Home & Cremation Services in East Peoria is assisting the family. A Celebration of Life will be held at Reflections Memory Care in Morton and later, in summer of 2023, at Shirley’s Funeral Home in North Huntingdon, PA.
