Dan Thomas Higdon Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dan Thomas Higdon, 88, of Metamora, formerly of Peoria Heights, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital in Peoria. He was born on June 22, 1934, in Franklin, TN, to Willie and Ella (Cross) Higdon. He married Shirley Webb on August 21, 1955, in Peoria and later married Mary Ann Hotvedt on October 7, 1984, in Manito; she survives. Also surviving are his children, Dennis (Dori) Higdon of Peoria, Dale (Irlene) Higdon of Dunlap, Dave (Deb) Higdon of Salem, SC, and Debra (Kim) Young of Dunlap; his stepson, Harlan L. Hotvedt III of Springfield; his brother, Ronnie (Kathy) Higdon of Chillicothe; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Dan served in the Army, then worked as a union painter for 11 years. He started Mid Illinois Companies in 1970 and retired in 1996. Dan was the proud father of 3 Eagle Scouts and was Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for 13 years in Peoria Heights. He was a member of G.P.C.S.A., P.D.C.A., and the American Legion. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. at Gary Deiters Funeral Home & Cremation Services in East Peoria, with a Funeral Service following at 6:00 p.m. Private inurnment will be at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.
