Leo Aldren Ruemmler, 91, of Morton, formerly of Sunnyland, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2021, at Villas of Hollybrook in Morton. He was born on July 24, 1929 in Benton, IL to William L. and Vivian B. (Glover) Ruemmler. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wilford, Robert and Jerry. Surviving are his care takers Jim and Debra (Ruemmler) Rada of Morton; sister-in-law, Jerri (Moore) Ruemmler of Ewing, IL; nieces and nephews Kathy (Thomas) Lewis of O’Fallon, IL, Christine Allsopp-Beaudoin (Donald) of McConnels, SC, and William “Bill” Ruemmler of Ewing, IL; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Leo graduated from Benton Township High School in 1947. Later, he went to Mt. Vernon Junior College and graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree. Leo was a Korean Conflict veteran serving from 1951-1953 in the 4th Army. He retired from U.N.R. Rohn Manufacturing, Peoria, IL. He was a member and elder of Sunnyland Christian Church in Washington where he was active in the bells and church choir. In October of 2020, Leo returned to his Methodist roots by joining the Morton United Methodist Church. He was a member, officer and consulting rosarian of the Greater Peoria Rose Society, receiving the Bronze Medal of Honor from the Society. In 2012, he also received the Silver Medal from the American Rose Society. In 2001, he received “The Good Neighbor” award at the Cherry Festival in Washington. Special thanks to Cory and Tammy Nack who also contributed to Uncle Leo's care, as well as Anita, Heidi and the rest of the Villas of Hollybrook staff who went the extra mile to make Leo's last years comfortable. Leo’s visitation will be from 5-6 PM on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Gary Deiters Funeral Home & Cremation Services in East Peoria. Funeral services, officiated by Rev. Michael Paulson, will be at 6:00 PM with military rites following. Graveside service and burial will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sunnyland Christian Church or the Morton United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be left at www.GaryDeitersFH.com.
