Richard “Rick” Kaps, 69, of East Peoria, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. He was born on November 5, 1951 to Richard and Irene (Ferreira) Kaps in Peoria. He married Judy Holliday on December 24, 1983 in Marquette Heights; she survives. He is also survived by his daughter Megan (Mike) Mobeck of East Peoria; his son Jonathan Lee (Lisa Parr) Kaps of Pekin; his 2 stepdaughters, Robin (Paul) Bennett of Huntsville, AL and Hope (Larry) Ware of Peoria, IL; his stepson Michael (Terri) Holliday of Bloomington, IL; his brother David (Georgia) Kaps of Morton; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Rick worked as a machinist for Caterpillar Tractor for 30 years. He was also a school bus driver for East Peoria District 309 for 17 years. Rick was very active in the community. He served as a police officer in Marquette Heights and was a volunteer fireman for East Peoria for five years. He also volunteered with the Tazewell County Sherriff’s Office Auxiliary for 30 years and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for 15 years. Rick was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in East Peoria. A visitation will be held from 3:00-4:00PM on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Gary Deiters Funeral Home & Cremation Services in East Peoria, with a funeral service following at 4:00PM. Pastor Brian Pape will officiate. Burial will be in Hirstein Cemetery in Morton. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
