Loyd W. Weber

Loyd William Weber, affectionately known as Papap by his many grandchildren and closest family members, died peacefully on July 4, 2026, at the age of 93. He was born on July 8, 1932, in Big Run, Pennsylvania, to Lee and Lulu Weber, the youngest of four children. He was named after his mom’s brother. Big Run was the small borough where he first picked up a baseball and caught his first fish. It was also where he married his beloved wife, Peggy, and built the foundations of a family that would eventually move to Pittsburgh before heading west to Peoria, Illinois. After serving in the Army and a brief career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Loyd graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. He later built a successful career as a financial planner. He was a savvy businessman who had a knack for figuring things out through hard work and honesty. Loyd loved spending time outdoors. He tended an impressive garden that always seemed to produce way too many tomatoes. He looked forward to hunting season every year before heading south for the winter. At the golf course, he drew the envy of his fellow golfers by regularly shooting below his age. There’s no way to count all of the baseball games, swim meets, soccer matches, and softball tournaments Papap attended. He was a man of faith who welcomed people into his church community. No one sang louder in the choir. He also found great joy in painting and created dozens of works for friends and loved ones featuring birds, flowers, and memories of his favorite places: the Boundary Waters, Anna Maria Island, and anywhere with family. Every member of the family received one of his paintings—a gift that reflected both his generosity and his unconditional love. In his absence, those paintings will be treasured by so many of us. As Papap would say, “Happy days.” Loyd and Peggy enjoyed 64 years of marriage before her death in 2018. Loyd was also preceded in death by his siblings Irene, Max, and Jane, and his great-grandson Brantley. He is survived by his three children: Sue (Randy) Hurd, Jeff (Kathy) Weber, and Scott Weber; nine grandchildren: Brandon (Eileen) Hurd, Ryan (Nikki) Hurd, Nikki McDonald, Chelsey (Jeromy) Giroir, Zac Weber, Lynsey (Alex) Temple, Nathan Hurd, Josh (Bailey) Weber, and Hannah (Meghan) Weber; as well as 16 great-grandchildren: Delaney, Lauren, Brynley, Landry, Claire, Lillian, Harrison, and Ryleigh Hurd, Carter, Callahan, and Cade McDonald, Kamdyn and Jax Giroir, and Ada, Blair and Bryn Temple. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Gary Deiters Funeral Home & Cremation Services in East Peoria. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at United Presbyterian Church in Peoria on Thursday, July 23, 2026, with additional visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Reverend Debra Avery will officiate. Burial will follow at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to United Presbyterian Church in Peoria.
